Custom Plastic Injection Molding Process Diagram

How Custom Plastic Injection Molding Works

Custom plastic injection molding service starts with creating a highly accurate machined mold that matches the customer’s design specifications. This mold is installed in an injection molding machine, where the injection unit heats raw plastic material until it becomes molten. Under controlled pressure, the molten plastic is injected into the mold cavity, filling every detail.

Once filled, the mold is cooled to solidify the plastic. The machine then opens the mold to produce parts with consistent dimensions and surface quality. This process can be repeated thousands or even millions of times, ensuring cost-effective production. From prototyping to full-scale manufacturing, custom plastic injection molding delivers precise, repeatable results for a wide range of applications.

Injection Molding FAQs

What are the advantages of plastic injection molding?

Plastic injection molding offers high production efficiency, consistent part quality, and low cost per unit for large volumes. It supports complex shapes, a wide range of materials, and allows for repeatable precision in every cycle. Injection molding parts also generally perform better than parts made by CNC machining or 3D printing from the same material.

Can you help me design my product?

Yes, our engineers can assist with design optimization and manufacturability recommendations.

How does EZRA protect my intellectual property?

We ensure all files are handled securely and are happy to sign NDAs upon request.

Do you offer free mold maintenance?

Yes. We provide free lifetime mold maintenance.

What’s the difference between prototyping and mass production?

Prototyping is used for quick iterations in low volumes, while mass production uses hardened molds for higher volume and consistency.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

We have no minimum order quantity. For projects that move into full-scale production, we refund the mold-making cost.

How can I design injection molded parts for lower cost and easier production?

To optimize plastic parts for cost and manufacturability, use thinner walls to shorten cycle time and reduce material use, but keep wall thickness even to prevent sink marks and voids. Add ribs at 40–60% of wall thickness for strength, and keep bosses around one-third of wall thickness. Avoid complex features like undercuts, which make tooling more expensive and harder to eject, and consider design techniques such as pass-thru coring to minimize them.

How do you ensure the quality of injection molded parts made in China?

All parts are inspected through a strict quality control process, including incoming material checks, in-process monitoring, and final dimensional and visual inspections. For high-volume runs, we follow international standards (ISO/ANSI/AQL sampling) to guarantee consistency. This ensures every part meets customer specifications before shipment.

Do I need to handle customs duties or taxes when ordering from China?

No. All customs duties and taxes are included in our pricing, so you don’t need to worry about extra fees or paperwork.

Who owns the mold and tooling after payment?

Once the tooling invoice is paid in full, the mold and tooling are customer-owned. We label each tool with a unique ID and store it under controlled access. Upon request, we can provide supporting records such as photos, ID logs, and maintenance history.

Can you sign an NDA and restrict access to my files?

Yes. We can sign an NDA before receiving your CAD files or project details. Internally, we follow strict confidentiality practices and limit access to only the team assigned to your project. We do not share files with third parties without your approval.

Do you ever reuse customer molds or designs for other projects?
